Our building had requirements such as the wall being modeled as solid stone facade, so our families had to be joinable to the wall to allow the materials to merge in section and plan. So if we remove those families you literally have a typical wall assembly. In the case of things like the filigree that decorates the face like that, most of ours ended up being wall or face based families that were applied to the wall. The general rule for modeling in revit is to literally approach the model the same way you would actually build the building.
